Well, we finally made it. The NC State Championships would wrap up Kaylin's first ever competitive gymnastics season. The meet was in Smithfield, NC. It was about a 3.5 hour drive. This trip was just Mommy, Daddy and Kaylin. We had a blast getting to focus all of our attention on her as we left little brother at home with Oma and Gramps. Surprisingly enough, Kaylin's nerves were non existent. In fact, she says that competing at the meets is her favorite part of being on a team. She LOVES getting in front of the crowd and performing everything she's worked so hard on. In between the Mountain Madness meet and State Championships, Kaylin did a private lesson for vault. She has struggled so much on this event all season. We wanted to give her an extra edge going into her last competition with hopes of improving her vault score. We knew this was going to be a tough competition!
Kaylin ended up with her highest vault score of the season with a 9.275!!! We were so excited when that number came up on the screen! Since this was such a big meet, that score earned her 6th place.
Her floor routine was the best I've seen her perform, yet it scored low. 8.850 earned 8th place.
Her beam routine wasn't her best. She said she was distracted with noises around her. It's always noisy so I'm not sure if it was nerves or the fact that it was the last event of the day and she was just tired or what. Either way, she didn't fall, so that counts or something!! She scored a 8.450 and ended up towards the end of leaderboard. Her bar routine also looked pretty solid to me, so I am not sure why she scored so low. I know the judges are looking at every little detail, though. She scored a 8.550 and took 9th. Her all around score was a 35.125 and she placed 9th in the state for her age group! It was such an honor to be a part of the competition and we could not be more proud of our little gymnast!
Thank you everyone for your tremendous support throughout this season. We had no idea what to expect and I'm proud to say we made it through! K has hopes of competing level 3 in 2019. For now she's back in the gym 3 days a week training the new skill's she'll need for level 3. Have a great holiday season and we will post more updates after the New Year!
Much love,
Kaylin and Julie
